Winemaker's Notes

Estate-Grown Red Wine
This red wine is fresh and young made in a Beaujolais nouveau style. Uncrushed fermentation within the berry develops unique fruit flavors specific to nouveau, such as raspberry, black cherry and banana. It is the first taste of the new vintage and is released on the traditional nouveau day, the third Thursday of November.
Our 2009 vintage is a bit bigger than a usual Ruby Nouveau because of the nature of this year’s growing season. Ruby Nouveau 2009 is full of wild berry fruits reminiscent of blueberries, blackcaps, or bing cherries. We of course don't add any of these fruits, but the intensity of the vintage really captures these flavors of the grape.
Grape: 80% Marechal Foch and 20% Millot, estate-grown - Lake Wisconsin Viticultural Area
Production Method: whole berry fermentation, Beaujolais method
Aging: not aged to retain it freshness and fruitiness, bottled early fall
Sweetness: dry
Alcohol: 12.8%
Serving Temperature: 50º - 58º
Ageability: 8 months to 1 year
History: started making Ruby Nouveau in 1984
Additional Information: Ruby Nouveau is a celebration of the new harvest in the tradition of our winemaker’s home in the Beaujolais region of France. This wine is released the same fall in which the grapes are picked, which makes the wine fresh and grapey, with a brilliant ruby-red color. The colorful label is a celebration of our recent expansion picturing both our 2008 winery building and 1858 original winery building. We continue to Build on Tradition...

Established as the Wollersheim Winery in 1972, today the vineyards are comprised of 25 acres of French-American and American hybrid grapes. This regional winery has received numerous Double Gold awards for its premium grape wines and has gained recognition as being one of the leading wineries in the Midwest
